Hurricane on the Bayou - sponsored locally by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County

POSTED: 07/25/07

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Flood Control District of Maricopa County is proud to be the local sponsor of "Hurricane on the Bayou" at IMAX Theatre Arizona Mills.

The vivid, large-format film on a six-story-high screen takes viewers on a journey deep into the heart of Louisiana, following a group of four musicians as they explore the culture of New Orleans before, during and after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. MacGillivray Freeman's IMAX cameras capture scenes of speeding airboats traveling through alligator-filled bayous, the musicians' tragic personal stories of Katrina, and most importantly, a glimpse of the rapidly disappearing wetlands that are New Orleans' first line of defense against severe storms.

The film is a dramatic example of the power of nature in the form of severe storms and flooding. The Flood Control District reminds County residents to use caution during this year's summer monsoon season: stay out of flooded washes and roads, protect your property against flooding and stay tuned to the most up-to-date weather forecasts.

"Hurricane on the Bayou" runs through September 27. For ticket information and showtimes, visit the IMAX Theatre Arizona Mills Web site at http://www.imax.com/tempe/films/hurricane.htm or call the box office information line at (480) 897-IMAX.
