As part of a series of projects consisting of basins, channels and storm drains to provide 100-year flood protection on the Upper East Fork of Cave Creek, modifications to the existing channel were made including lowering the invert and widening the channel in various reaches. This removed over 400 homes and numerous commercial businesses from the FEMA delineated floodplain. The City of Phoenix was the lead on this project, and in accordance with the IGA, the District was a cost share partner with an agreement to cover 50% of the cost, not exceeding $2.25 million.
