Description:

In August 1997, the District initiated the East Maricopa Floodway (EMF) Capacity Assessment for the 27.4-mile-long EMF. Running parallel to the Roosevelt Water Conservation District irrigation canal from north of Brown Road, south across Hunt Highway, and southwesterly through the Gila River Indian Community to the Gila River, the EMF is among the major regional outfalls for the East Valley. The assessment was conducted in response to concerns that the original EMF design did not provide sufficient capacity to contain the 100-year storm event (one-percent chance of occurring in a given year).

Status:

The study was completed in 1999.
