Internships and Volunteer Opportunities

Public Health offers exciting internship and volunteer opportunities throughout the year through various programs. These positions will complement education with experience to best prepare candidates for the professional public health world.

An intern is a student from a college or university requesting an internship for academic credit to fulfill a requirement from their school. A volunteer needs to be at least 18 years of age and desires personal experience without acquiring credit from a college or university.

Both interns and volunteers use the same application to begin the process (except the Dietetic and Community Health Worker internship programs, see links below). Once submitted and verified by the intern/volunteer coordinator, the application goes into the intern database to be possibly matched with a project that one of the programs has submitted.

Fellowship Opportunities

Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) Fellowship Program

We are pleased to announce the launch of the MCDPH Fellowship Program. This two-year program will connect recent graduates of advanced degrees with practical, hands-on learning experience working with multiple layers of government to plan and execute initiatives combating substance misuse and abuse. Fellows will be placed in either one of Maricopa County's largest cities or at Maricopa County Correctional Health Services where they will provide support to local efforts and serve as regional liaisons to MCDPH to promote internal work. Through this program, Fellows can anticipate gaining exposure to city and/or county operations while supporting impactful, evidence-based plans and activities.

The application for this Fellowship is closed for 2022.

For questions or additional information, please contact Lehem Eyassu, Stakeholder Communications Coordinator, lehem.eyassu@maricopa.gov.
