Transportation Advisory Board
Mission
The mission of the Maricopa County Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) is:
- Comprehensive transportation planning that enhances the quality of life for Maricopa County residents
- Continued safety and maintenance of the Maricopa County transportation system
- Implement the Board of Supervisors transportation goals
- Excellence in regional planning
- Promoting cooperative efforts to resolve rural and urban issues
One of the TAB's fundamental responsibilities is to review and approve the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Five-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP contains all MCDOT projects planned for the following five years. Another important function of the TAB is to assist in developing and maintaining public understanding and support for MCDOT programs through active communication. TAB members bring the constituent voice to MCDOT transportation decisions.
The board meets several times throughout the year and Maricopa County residents are encourages to attend.

Member Qualifications
The Maricopa County Transportation Advisory Board consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Each Supervisors appoints one member to represent their district. Members are appointed for three-year terms.
Duties & Powers
According to Resolution No. 92-02 (MCDOT), the Transportation Advisory Board shall: Annually recommend Board of Supervisors approval of a five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that has been developed in alignment with the mission statement of the Transportation Advisory Board. The CIP will include, but not be limited to consideration of transportation planning, land use planning, economic development, the environment and quality of life. Recommend an annual budget for the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. Recommend approval of new projects and studies that require authorization by the Board of Supervisors. Communicate with and obtain input from constituent groups and members of the public concerning Maricopa County Department of Transportation activities. Recommend transportation policies, as needed, for adoption by the Board of Supervisors. Ensure continuing interface with other agencies and intergovernmental groups for potential multi/jurisdictional/multi-purpose projects. Seek and provide support for all available funding sources for functions consistent with its mission, duties and function and the mission, duties and functions of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation."
Formation Authority
The TAB was established by the Board of Supervisors on February 15, 1979. The TAB subsequently adopted Resolution No. 92-02 on May 20, 1992, regarding the duties of the TAB.
