Active Transportation Plan

What is Active Transportation?

Active transportation is movement powered by people, not machines. MCDOT's Active Transportation Plan (ATP) will focus on walking and bicycling, including connectivity between modes (including vehicles and transit) on County roadways.

MCDOT's goal is to plan a transportation system that provides multiple alternatives for travel. To do this, MCDOT will complete a comprehensive inventory of sidewalks, bike lanes, shared use paths and Americans with Disability Act (ADA) ramps. Efforts will also include the identification of gaps in the regional bicycle and pedestrian networks on MCDOT roadways. Public Outreach opportunities will be provided at two phases in the process (check the website for upcoming details). Once data is collected, sorted, and reviewed, a list of potential projects will be developed. This list will then be prioritized and a recommendation for programming will be developed.
