[ARCHIVED] Board of Supervisors Seeks Justice of the Peace Applicants

Downtown Precinct Justice of the Peace Resigns

Downtown Precinct’s Justice of the Peace Jimmie Hernandez announced his retirement, effective May 12, 2017. The vacancy will be filled by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

The district encompasses areas including Thomas Road to the north, south past University Drive, 19th Avenue to the west and Priest Drive to the east. For full precinct boundaries, see https://recorder.maricopa.gov/Maps2/Justice_Precincts/2012/DowntownTabloidSize.pdf.

The selection process is as follows:

The appointee must be, like Hernandez, a Democrat and live in the Downtown Justice Precinct. The appointee must be a registered Arizona voter and understand the English language. A Justice of the Peace is not required to be an attorney. The appointee will serve out the unexpired term through 2018. The next elections for the position will be the primary and general elections in 2018.

 Applicants should send their letters of interest along with a resume to the Office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003, or ClerkBoard@mail.maricopa.gov. Applications are subject to a background check. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 26th.
