[ARCHIVED] Board Approves Plan for Special Elections

GB2_Record1

Voters in Congressional District 8 have a plan to go with the dates for the upcoming special elections. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the plan presented by the County Recorder.

“It was important the voters in CD-8 had a polling place to visit on Election Day if that is how they choose to cast their ballot,” said Supervisor Clint Hickman, District 4, who represents most of CD-8. “We are planning on 53 polling places for these two dates and the Elections Department might be able to add a few more.”

The plan calls for as many as six poll workers per site with electronic poll books, a “ballot on demand” system and a tabulation machine so ballots are counted on the spot. Voters on the Permanent Early Voting List will also receive their ballot by mail.

This election is to fill the seat vacated by former Congressman Trent Franks. The primary will take place on February 27 with the general election on April 24. Because of the timing of these elections, the board confirmed the County Recorder will be reaching out to voters on multiple platforms and forums.

“I am glad we were able to secure an extra polling place in the northern part of the county,” said Supervisor Bill Gates, District 3. “Due to the extremely shortened timeline of this election, this plan also includes a considerable education effort with social media, mailers and advertising in community papers.”
